The dial, case and overall look & feel just feels right to my eye. The modified ETA of my Mark XV is giving me a headache after 20 years of mostly daily wear. IWC has done other tribute watches before, reviving long-shelved designs. The hand-wound pilot watch that was part of its "Vintage" series a decade or so ago is a great example. I thought that the Oyster perpetual is 34mm and old Explorer was 36mm, same as the Datejust. Yes, but if you are going to compare, 34mm vs 36mm is closer than 34mm vs 39mm of the new explorer. From what I have seen, the real life difference in size between the Perpetual and the domed bezel DJ* is very small. *The fluted bezel DJ wears/appears .
Then came across the IWC pilot (43mm). It's also printed dial but it has more depth plus date/day and screwed down crown. Fit really well on my 7" wrist. AD was only offering 10% discount but I don't know what's the norm for IWC in general (don't know much about the brand). This is a generic picture but same watch (might get it on bracelet).
